General Technical Terms 


This Blog is related to Salesforce B2B Commerce Cloud. Few important technical terms have been discussed here that will clear your basics and also help you to clear interviews.

1. What is Salesforce B2B Commerce Cloud ?
  • B2B or Business-to-Business, is a sale of goods or services between businesses.
  • Admins can use Lightning Experience functionality to define Buyer Experiences including search, carts, checkouts etc.
  • Admins and Managers can import commerce data for Accounts, Products, Price Books, Entitlements using Data Loader/ Data Import Wizard.
  • They can also create, set up, localize Stores.
  • Buyer Managers can manage other Buyer Accounts.
  • Store Managers can update products, verify their Store's settings from Commerce app.

2. What is Buyer Account ?
  • A buyer account is a customer account that is enabled as a buyer and added to a buyer group.
  • It gives a user purchasing access to a Store and is associated with B2B entities like Price Books, Entitlements etc.
  • You can enable a buyer to buy for an external account.

3. What is an External Account and how it is related to a Buyer ?
  • An external account is an account other than the account for which the buyer is a contact.
  • When shopping in a B2B Store, the buyer sees an option to switch accounts in the user profile menu.
  • When they select the switch accounts option, the buyer sees a list of the external accounts they have access to.
  • The buyer can select one of the external accounts and buy on behalf of that account.

4. What is Buyer Group ?
  • It is a collection of buyer accounts having common access to entitlements.
  • It determines user's access to to stores, price books, entitlements etc.
  • Inorder to be added to a buyer group, the user must be a contact on a buyer account.

5.What is a Catalog ?
  • Catalog contains the hierarchical structure for categories that classify products in a store.
  • To view products, you must associate a catalog with the store.
  • Only one catalog can be associated with a store.

6. What are Categories ?
  • Categories helps organize products and makes them easier to find.
  • It can contains subcategories upto 5 - levels deep.
  • Categories can belong to only one catalog.
  • More than one categories can be assigned to a product.

7. What is Entitlement policies ?
  • It defines the product and product-related info that buyers can see based on their buyer group membership.

8. What is a Price Book ?
  • Price Books tracks the product prices that your store offers to a customers.
  • Four types of Price Books are :
    • Standard Price Books
    • Store Price Books
    • Buyer Group Price Books
    • Price Book for original Price    
  • You can choose to have buyer group price books, store price books or a combination of both but you must have atleast one.

9. What is Price Book Entry ?
  • It is a product with a price that is listed in a price book.
  • Each Price Book Entry specifies a currency for the price.

10. What is Tiered Pricing ?
  • It is pricing structure that assigns discounts on products based on volume.
  • The more number of products, lower is the price.
  • Ex: 
    • 10 items -- 10% discount     
    • 20 items -- 12% discount         
    • 30 items -- 15% discount
